Injured in a Motorcycle Collision? We Can Help you Seek Compensation
Injuries to motorcycle riders from an automobile accident are likely to be far more serious than injuries to car passengers. Unlike occupants of cars, who are protected by a structure and safety features like airbags and seatbelts, motorcyclists lack such barriers. While wearing a helmet when riding a motorcycle is essential for safety (and legally required in the state of Washington), it can only do so much in a collision.
At Becker Franklin Rovang, we have fought for many motorcycle riders who have been injured in accidents. With decades of combined legal experience, we are familiar with the common defenses that insurance carriers use when facing these claims. Our goal is to secure the maximum compensation you are entitled to under the law.
If you or a loved one has suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle crash, we encourage you to schedule a free initial consultation by calling (360) 800-3009 or contacting us online. One of our seasoned motorcycle accident lawyers will listen to your story and walk you through your legal options.

Whether You Wore a Helmet Can Affect Your Motorcycle Claim
Wearing a helmet is not only important for personal safety but also has significance in lawsuits involving motorcycle accident injuries. The state of Washington has adopted a comparative fault statute, which requires juries to apportion fault among all responsible parties. If you fail to wear a helmet and are consequently injured, the defense may have an argument that you are responsible for your own injury to some degree, especially because the state does mandate helmet use when motorcycling.

Why You Need Motorcycle Insurance in the State of Washington
In 2019, the state of Washington passed a law that finally requires motorcyclists to carry insurance. A substantial insurance policy may not prevent an accident, but it is a resource you will be thankful for if you are the victim of a car versus motorcycle collision (or any motor vehicle collision).
As a motorcyclist, you can buy insurance to cover a wide variety of risks, and it’s important to know the different categories:
- Liability insurance will protect you if you are sued because an accident was your fault
- Personal injury protection (PIP), sometimes called “med pay,” will pay medical bills (without a deductible) regardless of who is at fault for an accident
- Uninsured or underinsured motorist insurance (UIM) is coverage in the event you are injured due to someone else’s negligence, but they do not have liability insurance to cover damages
PIP and UIM insurance are important types of coverage that you should have, especially if you ride a motorcycle. Your typical PIP policy will likely not cover you if you are injured while operating your motorcycle. You may be able to purchase PIP for your motorcycle, but the premiums will be much higher than a comparable policy for an automobile.
You absolutely must acquire a UIM policy that will cover you when riding your motorcycle. We have had far too many sad cases where motorcycle riders with serious injuries are not adequately compensated because there were not enough sources of coverage for the seriousness of injuries sustained. Imagine sustaining a fracture to one of your legs due to the fault of another driver with no insurance or someone with the state minimum liability limits of $25,000 per person. If you don’t have UIM coverage, you will not receive anywhere near the amount of money that would reasonably compensate you for your injuries, putting you in a difficult financial position.

The Benefits of Hiring a Motorcycle Accident Attorney for Your Case
Navigating the consequences of a motorcycle accident can be overwhelming, but you do not have to go through the process of seeking compensation alone. One of the primary benefits of enlisting a lawyer is their comprehensive understanding of laws and regulations specific to motorcyclists, which can significantly impact the outcome of your case. An attorney should be well-versed in the nuances of motorcycle accident claims, including knowing what it takes to win.
A skilled lawyer can conduct a thorough investigation into your motorcycle accident, gathering crucial evidence like police reports, witness statements, and medical documentation to establish liability and build a strong case. They can also handle negotiations with insurance companies, who may attempt to minimize compensation for injuries and damages. By having a knowledgeable advocate on your side, you can focus on your recovery while a legal professional fights to protect your rights.
Our team at Becker Franklin Rovang is here to help if you have suffered injuries in a motorcycle crash. Call (360) 800-3009 or contact us online today.
